About the PDF Editor
The PDF Editor lets you mark up and complete a PDF without installing anything. Open a file and every page appears in a scrolling view with a thumbnail strip beside it. Choose a tool and click or drag on the page: type text in Helvetica, Times or Courier with bold and italic; draw freehand; highlight passages; add rectangles, ellipses, lines and arrows; place a picture such as a logo or stamp; or draw your signature and drop it onto the page. Anything you add can be moved, resized, restyled, duplicated or deleted, and every step can be undone with Ctrl+Z.
Use this PDF editor to sign PDF documents, add text to PDF pages, highlight PDF passages, annotate PDF files for review and fill PDF forms that have no fillable fields. You can edit PDF online in a few clicks, with no software to install.
You can also delete pages or insert blank pages from the thumbnail strip. When you are finished, choose Download. The editor writes your additions into a copy of the original document, keeping the original text selectable and preserving rotated pages and page boundaries. Your file is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded.
Editing existing text
A PDF stores each line of text at a fixed position rather than as an editable paragraph, so no browser-based tool can reliably rewrite it in place. The practical approach is to cover the old wording with the Whiteout tool and type the replacement on top. For larger rewrites, convert the file with PDF to Word, edit it there, and convert it back with Word to PDF.
Important: covering is not the same as removing
Whiteout boxes and shapes sit on top of the page. The text underneath is still inside the file and can be found by searching or copying. If you are hiding something sensitive, such as an account number, tick Flatten pages to images in the download dialog. That converts each page to a picture, which permanently removes anything that was covered, at the cost of selectable text and a larger file. Read our guide on how to edit a PDF for more.
Tips
- Shortcuts: V select, T text, P draw, H highlight, W whiteout, R rectangle, O ellipse, L line, A arrow, Delete removes the selected item, arrow keys nudge it.
- Double-click a text box to edit it. Hold Shift while drawing a line to snap the angle, or while drawing a shape to keep it square.
- Download before closing the page — edits live only in your browser until you save them.
